Disclaimer: Ingredients or names of ingredients may change at any given time. Be sure to check labels and do your own research if you have any questions or if you have food allergies.

The tortillas listed in this article are a partial list. There are so many brands out there we were unable to cover all. The tortillas have numerous ingredients that we have not listed here. We have attempted to identify certain tortillas we found relatively safe for the average person as well as identify ingredients in some other tortillas. which could be unsafe for our community of readers.

Azteca Tortillas have many refrigerated varieties. Are the refrigerated healthier? Not always. The Corn Tortillas have no offensive ingredients. The Flour Tortillas contain bleached flour, hydrogenated soybean oil (transfat), and sodium metabisulfite (chemical). They make Fat Free which contain bleached flour, transfat, sodium metabisulfite. Buena Vida Whole Wheat Tortillas contain soybean oil, soy protein (allergy information), sodium metabisulfite (chemical). Buena Vida Whole Grain Tortillas contain soy, wheat (allergy information), and sodium metabisulfite (chemical). AQL has not been able to track down an ingredient list for Buena Vida Organic Tortillas. We always caution that just because it says "organic" product could still contain some offensive ingredients. Please read labels.

Chi Chi's Tortillas are made by Hormel Foods (also see Manny's from Hormel). Several types available. Ingredients for regular flour tortillas are on Chi Chi's website but ingredient lists on their site are not available for many other types of tortillas they produce. Regardless, AQL was able to track some down. Flour Tortillas contain bleached flour, soybean oil (allergy alert). The Multigrain Tortillas contain bleached flour and soybean oil, Wheat Tortillas contain bleached flour, soybean oil.

Cruz Flour Tortillas.
Ingredients include bleached flour, hydrogenated soybean oil (transfat), sodium metabilsulfite (chemical). Cruz (yellow) Corn Tortillas contain benzoic acid (chemical).

Don Pancho is currently owned by Reser's. Some of these products require refrigeration or refrigerate after opening Their Gluten-Free Tortillas contain pregelatinized rice flour, partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil (transfat). Flour Tortillas contain bleached wheat flour, partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil (transfat). Golden Corn Tortillas seem pretty safe made with stone ground corn masa flour, low amount of invert sugar. The White Corn Tortillas so far are the only white corn tortillas we've found that have no bleached flour and are made with ground white corn. Whole Wheat Tortillas contain wheat flour, bleached wheat flour and we were unable to find more ingredients on-line (caution) and also were unable to locate ingredients for their Multigrain Tortillas on-line, caution, check label before purchase.

El Milagro Flour Tortillas contain bleached wheat flour, interestified soybean oil (combination of polyunsaturated oil and fully hydrogenated oil--transfat times 2), sodium metabisulfite (chemical). El Milagro (yellow) Corn Tortillas seem okay but their Blanca Corn Tortillas contain bleached wheat flour, interestified soybean oil (transfat), and sodium metabisulfite (chemical).

Food for Life has refrigerated tortillas. The Sprouted Grain (Ezekial 4:9) are yeast-free. Wheat and Gluten-free Brown Rice Tortillas are certified Kosher. These may not be as pliable as some other types but healthier. Sprouted Corn Tortillas are wheat-free. Warm thoroughly to avoid tearing. Food for Life Tortillas are all Kosher-certified, made with filtered water, are safe with no conditioners, additives, artificial colors or flavors, no preservatives.

Guerrero Tortillas. Yellow Corn Tortilla ingredients okay but White Corn Tortillas contain benzoic acid (caution: chemical additive), Flour Tortillas contain bleached flour, hydrogenated soybean oil (transfat), artificial color, and much more. Even the
Guerrero Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas contain bleached flour, partially hydrogenated soybean and or cottonseed oil (transfat), sodium benzoate and sodium matabisulfite (chemical additives), and artificial color.

La Banderita Tortillas are made by Olé Mexican Foods who make a large variety of tortillas. No offensive ingredients were found in the ingredients of the Corn Tortillas, however, the Flour Tortillas do contain objectionable ingredients. Even though the Whole Wheat tortillas are touted as "healthy," in reality they contain (in addition to whole wheat flour) bleached flour, partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil (transfat). The company also makes Olé Extreme Wellness Tortillas, however, caution, the ingredients were not listed the Olé Mexican Foods website. Please read the label of this product prior to purchasing.

La Reina Tortillas. Unable to find ingredients list on-line, check labels or call them. La Reina's website boasts that their Corn Tortillas are made fresh and that they make their own masa in-house.

La Tortilla Factory makes a huge variety of what seem to be healthy tortillas. This is one of the few sites where the manufacturer proudly lists all ingredients. Organic Flour Wraps contain organic wheat flour, no transfat, organic extra virgin olive oil, no unsafe ingredients unless you're bothered by potato starch. The Organic Corn Tortillas have stone ground corn, corn flour, filtered water, trace of lime. They seem to be perfectly safe. They also make Low Fat/Low Carb Green Onion Tortillas and others, all which appear to be safe for the average person. You may want to check out their site online.

Manny's Tortillas are also made by Hormel Foods. Flour Tortillas contain bleached wheat flour and soybean oil. Getting various reports online regarding ingredients. One listed egg whites?, another didn't. While the soybean oil doesn't appear to be hydrogenated from the label, one report listed 1 gram transfat per serving? Some Manny's are called Burrito Style, Fajita Style, just plain Manny's Tortillas, also Taco size. Manny's Corn Tortillas are ok, no seriously bad ingredients, however many more so-so ingredients than other more natural corn tortilla brands. The Whole Wheat contain bleached wheat flour, soybean oil, but zero transfat.

Market Pantry Tortillas (Target Brand). Unable to find ingredients listed on-line, check labels.

Because the entire list of ingredients is not available, caution, read labels before purchasing or contact the organization through their website.

Sonoma Brand is made by La Tortilla Factory. Sonoma (All Natural) Gluten Free, Wheat Free Wraps have no transfats, are Kosher, have no additives or preservatives, are made with Teff and Millet and are supposedly more pliable than brown rice tortilla wraps.

Taco Bell Flour Tortillas contain bleached wheat flour, partially hydrogenated soybean/cottonseed oil (transfat). Apparently, some stores sell their Corn Tortillas, however, we were unable to track down ingredients, caution, read labels. Taco Bell does list ingredients on their website but does not separate flour and corn tortilla ingredients. It's a confusing long, repetitive list with corn and wheat all mixed in the same list.

Tumaro's. Their Pemium White Tortillas are made with organic unbleached wheat flour, rice flour, and other ingredients, however caution, sodium matabisulfite (chemical). They also make Tumaro's Low in Carbs, Multigrain Tortillas which include oat fiber, whole wheat flour, soybean flour and sodium matabisulfite (chemical).
